A Colley Gate salon helped a kind-hearted girl donate her hair to help kids with cancer.

Jade Taylor aged 11, a student at Redhill School, decided to donate her hair so it can be used to make children's wigs for cancer victims.

It the first time she has had a radical cut - previously she has only had the ends of her hair trimmed.

A generous family friend Lindsey Sullivan - who owns her own hairdressers Room 23 in Colley Gate - did the big cut for free.

Lindsey said: "It is fantastic, I think for someone her age to do something for a good cause is great."

Jade's mum Julie said they had read about children's cancer charities needing real hair for wigs so they researched it on the internet and found a charity called Little Princess Trust.

It provides wigs and hair pieces for children who have suffered hair loss due to cancer treatment.

Since then Jade has been gearing up to have her hair cut and finally went for the chop on Thursday May 1.

Julie said: "To be honest I am really pleased Jade is having her hair cut as it is going to be a lot easier to look after."

Jade said: "I just wanted to help the people who need it.

"I know how I would feel if I lost my hair.

"This has given me a purpose to have it cut off.

"I'm just happy I could help somebody by doing this."

Jade lost her grandmother to cancer when she was just five years old and the family have always been quite open about it.

This experience was another reason why Jade wanted to help cancer victims.
