Pair deny memorial thefts

TWO men from Colley Gate charged with stealing six plaques from Quarry Bank war memorial have denied the offence, a court heard.

Anthony and Mark Mellor appeared at Wolverhampton Crown Court today (Friday May 16) in front of Judge Michael Challinor.

They pleaded not guilty and were told their trial, expected to last two to three days, would be held the week beginning Monday July 14.

Mark Mellor, aged 29, of Furlong Court, was remanded in custody while his brother Anthony, aged 27, of Windmill Hill, was granted conditional bail and ordered to stay out of every scrap yard in the UK.

The charges relate to incidents which happened in Stevens Park, Quarry Bank, between January 28 and January 31 this year.
